Abstracts/Home

This is the first issue of the Electronic Musicological Review, published by the Arts Department of the Federal University of Parana.

The main objective of this journal is to foster the development of musicological research in Brazil through the publication of scholarly articles on a wide variety of subjects. Essays on historical and critical musicology, theory and music analysis, performance practice, ethnomusicology and composition are welcomed. Intending contributors should refer to Notes to Contributors. Whenever possible, articles will be published in Portuguese and English. The Electronic Musicological Review also has a news section. This is updated periodically and contains calls for papers, information on conferences, seminars, research and job opportunities.

We hope you enjoy this issue, which has articles by Rogério Budasz - "A Nineteenth-Century Brazilian Dulcimer Tablature", Paulo Castagna - "Modality in the Music of Luis de Milan", Harry Crowl - "A Study on Logic Principles Applied to Musical Composition", and Orlando Fraga - "Heitor Villa-Lobos: A Survey of his Guitar Music".
